The Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in Yobe, Alhaji Muhammadu Ibn-Abali, on Tuesday urged politicians in the country, to put national interest above personal ambitions and political interests.
Speaking in Damaturu at a meeting of traditional rulers, Ibn-Abali, who is also the Emir of Fika, said caution should be taken as the polity was already over-heated due to the fast-approaching election period.
“As fathers, we urge politicians to play politics according to the rules and discourage youth from carrying weapons and illicit drugs during electioneering campaigns,” he said.
He commended the state government and security agencies for working hard to ensure the relative peace being enjoyed in the state now.
He however called for the relaxation of some of the measures introduced at the peak of the incessant attacks.
“Some of the roads closed earlier need to be reopened and some softer measures be adopted to instil confidence in the people.” he pleaded.
The emir also commended the state government for the execution of people oriented projects, especially in the rural areas. (NAN)
