With the conclusion of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the attention of reigning African champions, Nigeria will now shift to the major FIFA tournament of the year- the 2014 World Cup, holding in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July. It is the 20th FIFA men’s World Cup and the Super Eagles will be expected to lead the continent assault on the world.
The Super Eagles trainer, Coach Stephen Keshi is expected to submit his preliminary 40-man list, from which he will pick the final 23 to represent the most populous black nation in the mundial. Regular suspects- Vincent Enyeama, John Mikel Obi, Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Moses are all expected to make the list but who among the country’s representative at the just concluded CHAN, where they came third, can fight for a shirt in the team bound for Brazil 2014.
Ejike Uzoenyi, the tournament’s MOST Valuable Player, MVP, and one of the country’s trio in the tournament XI (defender Kunle Odunlami and midfielder Rabiu Ali are the other two), has charged his team mates to up their efforts and fight for places in Nigeria’s final list to the World Cup in Brazil.
Coach Keshi has also thrown the ball at the boys, stating that he is willing to take at least three of them to the World Cup finals in Brazil. The coach said the tournament has exposed the boys and prepared them for future engagements.
“The major goal for me [in South Africa] was to expose the players and see if I can get two or more players to take to the World Cup in Brazil in five months’ time. I am happy to say that I have really gotten some,” Keshi said.
IF YOU ARE COACH STEPHEN KESHI, WHO WILL YOU INCLUDE IN YOUR 40-MAN LIST AND POSSIBLY, THE FINAL 23 TO THE WORLD CUP FROM THE CHAN 2014 PLAYERS?
