A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Gabriel Yabaka, has said there was no agreement on zoning the Bomadi/Patani federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives among the local government areas that make up the constituency, saying that the rumour was baseless.
Yabaka said even if such agreement existed, it has no legal or democratic basis, and hence is null and void and against public policy. He noted that there was no such provision in the laws of the land, thus, even if two people had agreed on such a public issue, it cannot be binding.
Speaking to newsmen, he urged the people of Bomadi/Patani federal constituency to discountenance such rumours and go ahead to vote based on their choice of who has not only impacted on their lives more positively, but has helped to uphold their fundamental rights after putting the aspirants on the scale when the time comes.
He said that spreading unfounded rumours cannot guarantee any electoral victory for any aspirant who wants to be taken seriously, as the people of Bomadi/Patani federal constituency are not fools. He assed that it was time for legislators from the councils to the highest office to also give account of their mandates, as before now, the focus had always been on only the executive arm of government to do so.
He said: “What is of interest to the masses now is, how can poverty, illiteracy, hunger, disease, unemployment among others, be banished from the area and this should be the concern of a true representatives of the people as the environment calls for urgent attention.”
