Chairman of Senate Committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodinma of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo West, has alleged of plans by the Imo State Government to begin a smear campaign against him over his governorship ambition in 2015.
Senator Uzodinma said the plan to wage the smear campaign against him was because of media speculations that he might contest the 2015 governorship election in Imo State as a consensus candidate of the PDP.
Uzodinma in a statement by Director of Publicity, Senator Hope Uzodinma Campaign Organisation, Declan Emelumba, said the smear campaign will include hiring phantom groups to demonstrate against Uzodinma’s purported governorship ambition as well as sponsored newspaper write-ups that will paint the senator in bad light.
Emelumba said Senator Uzodinma was clearly aware of plans by the Rochas Okorocha administration to use all means possible to blackmail him within the ranks of PDP leadership as well as cause disaffection between him and other key stakeholders in the party.
“The governor has, in fact, set up a committee to fabricate all manner of imaginary allegations against the senator, which will be released to the media any moment from now,” he said.
