Benin – A former player of the Super Eagles, Isaac Semitoje, said the home-based Super Eagles stood a chance of winning the CHAN tournament scheduled to kick off this weekend in South Africa.
Semitoje made the remark while addressing newsmen at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, on Monday.
“There are many good players in our league and this is good opportunity for them to prove to the whole world that they are capable of doing the nation proud.
“We have the best league in Africa and I believe we can win the cup,” he said.
Speaking on the World Cup, Semitoje said Nigeria must begin preparations in earnest if it were to surpass the second round feat it attained in 1994.
Semitoje urged the Nigerian Football Association to create an enabling environment for the Stephen Keshi-led technical crew to succeed.
“They should allow Keshi the free hand because by the time several people begin to talk from right to left, he will be confused.
“If they continue to give him the free hand as they have been doing, then the team can go as far as the semi final and possibly win the World Cup.
“At the last cup of nations, they did not believe him, but at the end the team won the cup.
“They should allow him to pick his players, irrespective of where they hail from, I believe he can do well for us at the world cup if given the free hand,” Semitoje said. (NAN)
