Lagos – Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, the President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF), on Friday in Lagos said the body would make the sport more productive in 2014.
Fatayi-Williams, who made the pledge in an interview in Lagos, said NAF was gearing up for robust activities later in the year.
He said the federation had lined up a number of competitions aimed at upgrading the standard of the sport and quality of athletes.
“We the members of the NAF board of management are preparing for a vibrant year so that the sport can be enhanced in the country.
“The board will meet on Feb. 11 to further discuss what will hold for the year and ways we could achieve some of the plans we have already prepared,’’ Fatayi-Williams said.
He said that the board during the meeting would re-strategise on ways to revive the various sports under the federation.
“The board was inaugurated late last year so we are taking it step by step but focusing on getting the best out of the sport is the target this year.
“You can expect a lot this year from the federation,’’ Fatayi-Williams said.
NAF had earlier suspended its activities for 10 years before but was re-inaugurated in 2010 to resume activities.
The federation had before the re-inauguration decried government and corporate organisations lack of concern toward its activities.
Fatayi- Williams had after the inauguration of an 11-man new board on Nov 11, 2013, said that they would use the 2009 vision of the federation in raising swimming standards. (NAN)
