Cattle thieves kill three in Langtang

Suspected cattle rustlers have killed three people and injured four others in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State while trying to steal about 100 cows.

The suspects were reported to have opened fire on two of the deceased identified as Kahfa Timbong and Tanden Nandang who along with others, pursued them to recover the cows stolen by the suspected rustlers at Nwore village.

The third victim, Yakubu Changtim was killed at Yokdara village as the fleeing thieves shot sporadically while getting away.

A villager told journalists that the incident occurred on Thursday when the rustlers tried to steal the cattle from the grazing field but were given a chase by vigilant villagers.

He said the attackers on sighting them shot at them before abandoning the cattle and escaping from the area.

According to the villager, Mr. Nanpon Miri, “When the news got to the villagers, some of them mobilized and gave the cow thieves a hot chase to recover the stolen cows.

“In the process, the criminals gunned down two of the villagers, shot four others before they abandoned the cattle and disappeared into the bush”.
