Lagos – Agboola Pinheiro, a member, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) on Friday said that a stakeholder’s forum to hold on Jan. 29 in Abuja would produce the 2014 action-plan for basketball.
Pinheiro in Lagos said that the forum would be made up of NBBF officials, team managers, doctors, match officials and sponsors of men’s and women’s leagues.
According to him, the forum would serve as a platform for all parties involved to evaluate the activities of the previous year and discus the way forward for the coming season.
“We need to come together as a family to discuss about impediments to the development of our sport.
“This is why the forum will involve everybody that plays significant contributions toward the development of basketball in the country,’’ Pinheiro said.
According to him, the platform would also serve as an opportunity to decide the programmes and dates for the 2013/2014, the DStv/Men’s Basketball League and the Zenith Women League.
“We will use the forum to pick dates that are appropriate for the upcoming season for the men and women leagues.
“We will also have refreshers courses for our referees, table and match commissioners, who will be participating in all the leagues.
“It will be also used to discuss those issues needed to be improved upon in the DStv Men’s league and the Zenith Bank Women’s League,’’ Pinheiro said.
He said they would also take look critical look into the age grades national junior teams and discuss why we did not record good successes in 2013.
“We did not record a good outing for our national teams in 2013, especially the junior national teams.
“We will deliberate on this issue with state associations’ chairmen and evaluate what each state was contributing to the development of youth basketball,’’ Pinheiro said. (NAN)
