ALL Progressive Congress, APC has lauded the Inspector General, IG of Police probe into the aborted rally of the Save Rivers Movement, SRM, in Port Harcourt last Sunday where Senator Magnus Abe was allegedly shot with rubber bullets by the Police.

Chairman of the party in Rivers state, Dr Davies Ikanya in a statement also urged the Police to ensure that its findings at the end of the day should not be swept under the carpet.  The party further enjoined the IG to ensure that star witnesses of the alleged Police brutality which included Senator Abe and the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Tony Okocha were invited by the Police.

“All relevant individuals, including Senator Abe and Sir Tony Okocha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Chibuike Amaechi – both of whom were shot during the disrupted rally, should be interviewed by the IGP’s investigating team. The inquiry should also touch on the unholy marriage between the Police in Rivers State since the arrival of CP Mbu and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ascertain if CP Mbu is a member of PDP or not and if he attends PDP meetings. Anything short of this is unacceptable,” the party said.

The party said it supported call by Noble Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers state, Mr Joseph Mbu be transferred to Borno, stressing that he would be very effective there.
