Jos — Governor Jonah of Plateau State has urged Christians to pray for President Goodluck Jonathan and other leaders as they celebrate Christmas, saying the nation is at a critical period.
In a Christmas message issued by the Director of Press Affairs, Mr. James Mannok, the governor also called for prayers for the nation and enjoined Christians to celebrate Christmas in holiness.
He said Christ whose birth is being celebrated signified peace, love and sharing and urged people to emulate these virtues in their dealings with other Nigerians.
He called for mutual respect among adherents of various religions, promising that government will continue to provide the enabling environment for all citizens to practice their religion.
Many streets in the Plateau State capital were a beehive of activities yesterday as people made last minute preparations for Christmas.
There was unusual traffic jam along major streets while markets and other commercial spots witnessed a large turnout of people who bought drinks and other items for the celebration.
