Despite winning AFCON 2013 and the U17 World Cup, Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi has rated Nigeria 4 out of 10 this year.
The Super Eagles also qualified for a fifth World Cup in the outgoing year, and the country’s team of domestic league players qualified for the first time to the Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
“For me, I thank God Almighty that we try to do our best and God is helping us achieve results. But for me, we need to do a lot more than we are doing,” the minister said.
“And I’m the first one to tell you that in a scale of one to 10, 10 being where we should be, where are we today? I would say 4.
“Yes! We won the AFCON, the U17 World Cup, yes, very good, but until we are able to build a system that ensures that regardless of who is in the office, we can confidently say we will win or we can win, then we have not reached where we are supposed to be.”
