Kwali (FCT) – The Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) said on Monday it was ready to complete its 5,000 capacity mini stadium for grassroots sports development.
Chairman of the council, Mr Daniel Ibrahim, announced this in Kwali during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) assessment tour of the council.
Ibrahim said completing the project would encourage sporting activities across the 10 wards.
He said ” the council will spare no effort to improve the youth through sports”, adding that sports were avenues for the youth to realise their talent.
“The council will do everything with the available resources to provide necessary sporting equipment for the youth development.”
Ibrahim applauded the council’s handball team that won the U-13 handball competition in the FCT, describing it as a good omen to sports development in the area.
He, however, said his administration would give scholarships to the best players in the team, to encourage the youth in the community.
The Kwali boss urged the youth to develop more interest in sports, to excel in competitions not only in FCT but the nation at large.
The purpose of the tour is to assess the on-going projects and evaluate the implementation of development programmes for the benefit of the communities. (NAN)
