One of the world leaders in the development and deployment of next generation microwave networks, Cambridge Broadband Networks, on  Monday  announced new contracts with MTN Nigeria to upgrade and expand capacity of the operator’s 3G network.

With this development,  CBNL is expected to  undertake the supply, installation and commissioning of new VectaStar backhaul equipment to improve the quality of services for MTN Nigeria.

In addition to backhauling cell sites throughout the country’s largest mobile phone network, CBNL will be working in partnership with MTN to provide programme management, deployment and support services to ensure efficient, cost effective and timely delivery of the network.

“We have seen a significant growth in subscribers accessing the internet via 3G over the past few years, and as a result will be modernising our network in order to expand capacity and continue delivering the customer experience and mobile access expected by our customer base throughout Nigeria,”  Olusegun Salami, Senior Manager, Transmission Access Planning, MTN Nigeria, said, adding that,  “CBNL has demonstrated an impeccable knowledge of our market, customer needs and the challenges we face during the network upgrade, which is testament to our strong partnership over the past six years. Based on this expertise and the high performance of VectaStar, it was only right that we worked with the company again.”

For Nigel Webb, Vice President, Sub-Saharan Africa, of CBNL,  “The Nigeria upgrade requires both product expertise and local knowledge to ensure effective transition, with minimal downtime and disruption to MTN’s customers

He said hat the company’s significant local presence enabled  them to work closely with MTN planners to model detailed scenarios, prior to deployment. This will deliver a smarter, more efficient and resourceful network to support the traffic needs of today and for future capacity and coverage requirements.”

VectaStar is one of the most diverse multipoint microwave backhaul platforms having proved its ability to backhaul 2G and 3G networks, all IP 4G LTE and Wi-Fi networks and next generation infrastructures including small cells.
Pioneering next generation microwave transmission equipment since 2000, CBNL is the global leader in carrier-class, multipoint microwave backhaul and access solutions. CBNL’s VectaStar platform is deployed by over 70 communications providers across 41 countries, including seven of the top ten mobile operators.
