Former Shooting Stars coach Godfrey Esu has called on the Golden Eaglets to be watchful of their opponents’ style and tactics in coming games of the on-going U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
He said the team have the ability to do the country proud in the competition as he praised their effort so far, stressing that they remain highly favoured to become winners.
“So they must play with caution from now on because that is the way to avoid a repeat of mistakes made in past games especially the ones against Mexico and Sweden,” he advised.
Esu, who has also coached the defunct Julius Berger F.C and Enyimba, noted that because the Eaglets came off from the 6-1 thumping of champions, Mexico, they relaxed against Sweden.
“They under-rated Sweden by going with a mindset of another goal feast. The Europeans proved tougher but I commend our boys for recovering to earn a 3-3 draw. Again the coaches must ask the team not to go full blast in future matches but play carefully. Obviously teams have seen the weaknesses in our team and that’s the more reason they have to be on alert.
“In competitions of this nature, it is always good to exploit your chances and at the same time, not to leave too much room for opponents to exploit,” Esu stressed.
