The sum of $80, 000 has been earnmarked as prize money for the 2013 Governor’s Cup Futures I and II serrving off October 13 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
Disclosing this Thursday in Lagos, the Chairman of the LOC, Chief Pius Akinyelure said that the money would be shared among the players in the main draw of the men’s and women’s singles and doubles categories. The winner gets the most, followed by the losing finalists, in that order.
He added that the tournament which is in its 13th edition, promises to be exciticing given the high number of entries so far recorded.
“Thirteen, they say, is unlucky for some: but for us, it is a turning point in the process of perpetuating the Governor’s Cup, and making it self-sustaining. We expect a keen competition from other players” said Akinyelure who was represented by the Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye.
Also speaking, President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Sani Ndanusa said this year’s competition as usual provides a good platform to showcase Nigeria’s tourism potentials, cultural heritage and create an avenue for the home-based players to compete for supremacy with better ranked players from Europe, Asia and others continents in Lagos.
