The need for good governance in the country was re-echoed by Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, the Former Vice President of World Bank and former Minister of Education. She made this call at the just concluded programme; ‘The platform’, an initiative of Covenant Christian Center.
While speaking on the subject she titled ”I see a new Nigeria”, she pointed out that the problem of Nigeria is not in the multi-ethnicity or multi-religious and ideological affiliations of Nigerians but in it’s bad governance. “The government cannot lift its citizens out of poverty, but the citizens will lift themselves out through the quality of economic growth not that which is enclave but that which has efficient and effective governance, who are responsive to the citizens, Mrs. Ezekwesili noted.
In the course of her presentation, she lamented the recent killing of the many students in Yobe state by the Boko Haram sect. She however, pointed that Nigeria’s sixteen years of Democracy has not been sixteen years of Democratic rule but that of civil rule. She called on all Nigerians to be part of The “New Nigeria” she sees, where no one will wait for the Government to do everything but all be deeply involved in the way forward of the country, where the government will have the understanding that collaborative partnership is the new way of solving problem and where the public servant will understand that service is not for wealth but for sacrifice.
