Ekiti declares June 12 work free day

The Ekiti state government has declared Wednesday 12th June , 2013 as a  work free day for workers in the state.

This was contained in a  statement emanated  from the office of the state commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Tayo Ekundayo, said the workfree day was declared by the state government in commemoration of the  20th anniversary of the June 12 1993 Presidential Election  believed to have been won by the Late Chief MKO Abiola.

The election which was adjudged to the most credible in the history of the nation was  later annulled by by the military administration of that time .

This  culminated in a chains of events which led to the termination of military rule  and the institution of the present democratic rule in 1999

The statement further  added that Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi is expected to lead top government functionaries to  the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti for a forum organized to remember heroes and heroines of democracy who paid important roles during the long struggle to restore democracy in Nigeria
