LAGOS — Renewed communal clash in Ikorodu area of Lagos State has reportedly claimed the life of a policeman and injured unspecified number of persons.

The Policeman (names withheld) was said to be one of the officers posted to Mowonla area of Ikorodu to prevent further crisis in the town.

Vanguard gathered that the issue degenerated, Tuesday night, when some members of Ifegunwa family were involved in a reprisal attack having outnumbered the policemen on patrol in the area. At the end of the day, one of the policemen died from gunshot wounds.

The hoodlums numbering up to 100 were said to have used dangerous weapons freely during the crisis that continued till the following morning leading to destruction of lives and property.

Some residents who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that they had relocated their families to other parts of Ikorodu as they did not know when the crisis would end.

“We have fled the town pending the time government will wade into the crisis which has claimed the lives of many,’’ said one of the residents.

Effort to reach Area ‘N’ Commandant, Mr. N. Marcus, on the issue proved abortive as he simply told Vanguard on phone: “Please, I am busy now, please.”
