PORT HARCOURT – Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected the new executive of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Twenty-five of the 32-members  PDP Assembly, in a briefing, yesterday, pledged support for the displaced Chief Ake-led executive of the party.

In a statement by the Speaker, Mr.  Otelemaba Dan Amachree, the lawmakers said the Ake-led executive, which had been in place since the state congress of March 17, 2012, was duly elected.

He said: “It beats our imagination that several months after, persons who did not show interest or contest the election, went to court to seek redress.”

An Abuja Court, had recently upheld the Felix Obuah faction of the PDP as the duly elected state executive of the party.

The lawmakers considered the development as part of “the conspiracy of betrayal by Abuja based Rivers politicians bent on distorting history, events and development of Rivers State, to massage their inordinate ambitions.”

The lawmakers also dissociated themselves “from the leprous contraption known as Rivers State Legislative Forum purportedly led by  Kingsley Chinda,” while pledging absolute support and confidence in Governor Rotimi Amaechi, whose administration, they said, the Abuja detractors were trying to collapse.

Before the briefing, the lawmakers had at brief sitting, cleared seven nominees to constitute the caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, whose elected cabinet, the Assembly suspended a day earlier pending investigations of reckless spending and breach of security leveled against them.
