A non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Ogbe Political Change (OPC) and Urhobo Newface Association (UNA) have alerted the Urhobo people to be weary of a group, Urhobo Youth Council, purportedly fighting for them.

At a recent joint press conference held in Lagos, the group’s chairman, Diemo Dinolarge Onokpite alleged that the UYC’s President, Baro and his group have being collecting not less than N20 million from DESOOPADEC without distributing the largesse to the Urhobo people they claimed to represent and their campaign slogan is “marginalisation of the Urhobo people” when in real sense they are the ones marginalising the Urhobo people. What a game of betrayal?

Diemo who described the UYC executives as charlatans recalled with nostalgia how his slain brother, Chief Ogbe Onokpite single handedly fought  for the over 6,000 pipeline surveillance job for the Urhobo people and their inclusion in President Jonathan’s government.

While calling on the good people of Urhobo to discard the UYC members, said that most of the executive members of his group are currently being threatened.

He said that only recently, his Secretary, Wilson Oghenekpobo  Akpos was threatened by suspected members of UYC in Warri.

“So, you are aligning and signing document with those people in Lagos. Remember that we are all in Warri with you that was what they told my secretary”. Diemo said.

The OPC Chairman however stated that should anything happened to his Secretary, Mr. Akpos, the UYC chairman Mr. Baro and his group should be held responsible.

He, however implored the well meaning people of the Urhobo extraction not to be deceived by those he referred to as charlatans whose stock in trade was to short change the people.

Diemo also enjoined the Urhobo people to be conscious and weary of the type of leaders they selected to represent them.
