A fresh landslide weekend hit the riverside community of Okoloba, Sabagreia in Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State, destroying several houses.
The buried structures were located along the bank of the Nun River which passes through the community.
Though no life was lost, the incident sources told Vanguard, was the second to rock the area in less than five years.
The worst affected area, it was learnt include Abadani and Isedam compounds.
An indigene of the area, who spoke anonymously told Vanguard that it was providence that averted what could have been the tragic end of occupants of the destroyed houses.
“We thanked God the incident did not happened when the occupants of the affected houses had gone to bed, it could have been disastrous. Sadly, part of the area that was hit by landslide some years ago was seriously affected by the latest incident. People are apprehensive that the area may witness a repeat of the ugly incident,” he said.
The NUJ National Vice President, South South, Comrade Seyeifa Uzaka, an indigene of the area confirmed the incident and appealed to the relevant authorities to come to the aid of the community and save it from imminent extinction.
