The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has commenced what its described as extensive maintenance work on major roads around the popular Ladipo Spare parts market which was recently re-opened for business. The market was sealed off for weeks due to what the government described as its appalling state, especially with respect to health, safety and general outlook of its surroundings.
Executive Chairman of the corporation, Mr Gbenga Akintola disclosed that on the instruction of the State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, he deployed workers to commence work on the rehabilitation of roads at Ladipo Alhaji Akinwunmi streets.
“The work being carried out on these two roads shall be comprehensive and extensive as it involves drainage work and base preparation works which are already on-going, while it is anticipated that other adjourning streets will also receive attention later,” he said. Upon completion, these major roads are expected to complement commercial activities in that axis by aiding free movement of people, goods and vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Corporation last week carried out road maintenance activities on 45 roads in 16 Local Government Councils of the State. Included in the list is the night maintenance work which will be carried out on Mushin-Itire Road road, Surulere and Opebi Road, Salvation-Uturu axis, Ikeja. This is to enable smooth take –off of repair work on these roads as a result of high volume of vehicular activities experienced during the day, a statement from the Corporation noted.
The work schedule indicates extensive progress on five drainage systems currently undergoing construction in four Local Government Councils in the state. The drainage facilities under construction include Love of Fatherland/Crystal Avenue Oba Ogunji Road (Agege LG) Sapara Williams/Idowu Martins Victoria Island (Eti-Osa LG) Randle Road (Apapa LG) and Akinsulere/Odogbolu/Iyarere Streets in Surulere Local Government.
Roads to be maintained in Ikeja Local Government include Alade Avenue, Balogun Joseph/Olayinka Street Opebi, Olaribiro Street, Otunba Jobifele Way and Hakeem Balogun Street.
