The Niger Delta Study Group on Extractive Sector (NIDESGES) has called for the immediate revocation of oil blocs allocated to Northerners and reallocate them to the people of the Niger Delta region who are the owners of the oil block.

Reacting to the Northern opposition to the PIB legislation, Barrister Innocent Adjenughwure, said the people of the region are the ones bearing the brunt and devastating effect caused by exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in the region

He lamented that with all the contribution the oil rich region is making towards the development of Nigeria, some northern elite masquerading as leaders and law makers do not want to see any iota of development in the area. He noted that when the northern elements are monopolizing the oil blocs allocation, the indigenes of the Niger Delta did not raise opposition but the moment any mention of an increase in the allocation of resources source from the Niger Delta is made, these northerners would oppose such an increase.
