Ezu River: Pro-Biafra group threatens to drag FG to court

ENUGU — Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, has threatened to drag the Federal Government to court if the issue of dead bodies found in Ezu River, Anambra State, was not judiciously handled.

Addressing newsmen in Enugu, Mr. Edeson Samuel, who announced his election as the new leader of the group, condemned the spate of extra-judicial killings in the country and requested that government must do all within its powers to bring those involved in the recent case, where over 50 bodies were found dumped in a river, to book.

He frowned at the manner which the victims were killed and dumped in a river and the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government to the issue, warning that the BZM could not sit and watch while Biafra people were being wasted without going through any judicial process.

He said:  “It is a clear evidence that the Special Anti Robbery Squad at Awkuzu had been carrying out extra-judicial killings against  Biafra people. We wish to make it clear that the killing of Biafra people by security agents is no longer business as usual.

“We have set up a machinery to monitor and report to us the killings and inhuman treatments being meted out against the Biafra people across the length and breadth of this country.”

Edeson, who was among the members of the BZM executive that recently announced the suspension of Mr. Ben Onwuka as leader of the pro-Biafra group, said  he was elected at a National Executive Council meeting of the BZM in Enugu.
