’’The Nigerian Supporters’ band will be among the groups that will receive the team at the DSC Junction in Warri and with their drums and horns we will herald the entry of the team into Warri,’’ Amaju Pinnick, Chairman of the LOC said.

LOC members and top officials of the Warri South Local Government will be among those who will receive the Nigerian team who will be arriving from the IAAF High Performance Centre in Porthacourt where they have been camping for a month now.

In the team are two veteran Nigerian coaches, Seigha Porbeni and Brown Ebewele who are optimistic that Nigeria will present a solid squad for the championships. Up to 15 coaches trained the 59 athletes.

The Nigerian team will stay at Excel Hotel, one of the best hotels in Warri.
’’We have a crack team. We have trained well and I’m sure that most of the athletes we have in this team will turn to stars in the near future,’’ Porbeni said.

Prominent among the emerging stars is Divine Oduduru, a 15 year SS 3 student who has run 10.5 in camp.

’’When a 15 year old runs 10.5 you can imagine what he will do with good training in a year or two ,’’ Porbeni said.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria Technical Director, Omatseye Nesiama said that some of athletes in the Nigerian team may mature before the Rio Olympics in 1016.
