Ibadan — A 22-year-old, Gbenga Oladeru, has been sentenced to one and half years imprisonment for stealing two motorcycles valued at N380,000.
An Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced the convict who was said to specialise in stealing of motorcycles.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Obayanju, told the court that the defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He said Oladeru and a collaborator committed the crime on November 22, 2012 at Gbenla area of Ibadan.
Obayanju said the offence contravened Section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendant had at an initial hearing pleaded guilty, but changed his plea.
At Tuesday’s proceeding, however, the defendant confessed during cross examination that he sold the motorcycle at Sabo area of Ibadan.
Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina sentenced Oladeru to six months in prison on the first charge and one year in prison on the second charge, all without an option of fine.The jail terms are to run concurrently. Mrs. Okafor and her son were initially, rushed to a traditional medicine man before they were brought to the GeneralHospital, Akwukwu-Igbo, also affected by the storm, on Monday, two days after the disaster.
Traditional ruler of the community, HRM, Obi David Azuka, whose palace was not spared by the rainstorm, told Vanguard, yesterday, that the Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Tony Nwaka and the chair of the Oshimili North Local Government Council had visited the community to assess the damage.
Obi Azuka said, “The Commissioner said he was sent by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to assess the situation and promised that government would assist in rebuilding damaged property. The chairman of the local government council also said they would assist.”
Our source in the community hinted that doctor’ s residential quarter, theatre, laundry, general out-patient department, GOPD, walk way, female ward, chief nursing officer’s flat, plant house, and pharmacy of the General Hospital, Akwukwu-Igbo were all affected,”
