LAGOS—The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko has reaffirmed that smuggling of rice and other edible items through land borders has drastically reduced following an increase in revenue profile of the border posts.
Speaking in an interview in Lagos, the customs boss reiterated that the two borders had generated more revenue on monthly basis last year.
He however, attributed this development to attitudinal change of the importers who are paying duties as at when due.
Dikko said: “No more evasion of duty, importers are coming forward to pay duties on their imported goods. He therefore, challenged those who are perceiving land borders as haven for smuggling to visit the borders and see things for themselves and stop peddling rumours.”
