LAGOS — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Lagos State Command, has impounded 16,550 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, from vandals operating at 7th Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
The vandals were reportedly siphoning the petroleum product from a broken pipeline when the operatives swooped on them around 11a.m, Sunday.
Sighting the operatives, the vandals, reportedly dived into the river and left the products worth millions of Naira.
Apart from the petroleum products, about 5,000 empty kegs were also recovered from the scene.
Displaying the products yesterday, Lagos State NSCDC Commandant, Shem Obafaiye said his men got wind of the vandals’ operation the previous day and consequently mounted surveillance on Saturday midnight till the following day after which 150 litres kegs containing petroleum products and another 350 kegs containing the products were recovered.
‘’The vandals dived into the river and escaped leaving the product as soon as they noticed our men.”
According to the commandant, the recovery was the third attempt at 7th Avenue in the past three months and the products will be handed over to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. NNPC.
