NGO plans device to track traffic offenders

LAGOS —FRIENDS on Traffic and Emergency Solutions Initiative, FROTRESI, has said it plans to install a device that will track down traffic offenders, expressing concern over the increasing rate of recklessness and  indiscipline among motorists.

The group said the road traffic data collection technology will capture a vehicle that exceeds the required speed limit, adding that it is in collaboration with Lagos State Government, corporate organizations and individuals to reduce the scourge of traffic logjam in Lagos.

Speaking at the induction of its new members, Captain Niyi Oseni, Chairman, Board of Trustees, FROTRESI, condemned the improper and care free attitude exhibited on Lagos roads everyday by motorists and commuters.

He implored Lagosians to support the Lagos traffic law aimed at reducing such excesses.

To curb this, Mr. James Adeniran, also a BOT member of the group, said the group will assist in the provision of emergency services on the roads, among which is the identification of bad portions on roads that require urgent attention and collaboration with relevant agencies to fix such bad portions.

According to him, the idea was aimed at appealing to the mindset of all road users with a view to stir up the right attitude and change every unsafe practices and behaviours on roads.
