Fulani herdsmen kill 10, injure 15

Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed 10 persons and injured 15 others as they attacked two communities in Nasarawa State Saturday afternoon.

The attackers who were armed with guns, knives and axes were said to have taken residents of Iga and Rutu communities in Nasarawa Eggon and Doma local governments respectively unawares between 2 and 4p.m. as they left immediately after the attack.

According to a source, the Fulanis numbering over 50 besieged the communities through the bush and started destroying any property in sight, killing eight inhabitants of the area majority of who were said to be farmers.

According to an eyewitness: “ Nobody was aware of the attack. Some of us were under the tree and suddenly we heard some people screaming, shouting, calling for help. By then, the whole community was in confusion commotion, and everybody needed to run and hide somewhere”.

The corpses of the deceased were said to have deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, the state capital.

At Rutu village in Doma Local Government, it was learnt that the middle-age man who was an Eggon by tribe and farmer was shot alongside his son as he tried to move out some of their belongings from the community.

It was gathered that the deceased and his son had successfully packed some of the belongings and were trying to escape on a motorcycle when the assailants sprayed them with bullets.
