Dutse – About five months after flood washed away over 360,000 houses and over 400,000  hectres of farm lands in seventeen local  government  areas in Jigawa State, the money allocated by the federal government to help victims has not been utilized, while a lot of the victims of the flood are still stranded.

The chairman of Jigawa state committee on flood, Alhaji Jinjiri Abubakar Dutse who  has observed that the N400 million donation received  from the federal government is grossly inadequate .

Said he;  “I earlier said that the N400million the federal government is giving to Jigawa state flood victim is not enough, now considering the number of people affected by the last years flood alone in the state, if the amount were to be shared per head, each of the victims will get less than N1000 naira each.

“From our records so  far, over 360,000 houses and over 400,000  hectres of farm lands in seventeen local  government were affected, when we talk  of houses, it does not mean the number of rooms in each of the houses, which means if we count the number of families affected it will be more than the amount given by the federal government”, he added.

“That is our dilemma and reason why we cannot share the money as many people are thinking we should do, we have already shared assorted relief materials to victims, and in some areas lands have been allocated to victims to resettle  them because their houses were completely washed away.”
