It was a celebration of culture last week as Igbos in Lagos, especially in Mushin were joined by their friends, families and well wishers in the celebration that they called Igbo cultural unity.
The event which was the first of its kind had in attendance more than two thousand people from all walks of life including some Nollywood artistes.
Speaking at the event, the Eze Ndigbo of Mushinland, John Nwosu disclosed that the event was designed to unite the Igbos and their counterparts living in Lagos.
In his address, he said, the event was also meant to unveil the rich beauty of Igbo culture adding that Igbo being egalitarian in nature also brings other ethnic cultures of diverse nationalities in Nigeria to interface with theirs in order to foster unity.
According to him, “this is a platform for gathering of Igbo in Lagos with a view to celebrating an important event in their cultural calendar and discussing issues of common interest among Igbo and non-Igbo speaking.”
Continuing, he said:”This year’s celebration will mark a remarkable day in the history of Igbos especially in Mushinland and its environs on cultural and traditional development and sustenance. The programme will afford Ndi Igbo an opportunity to further strengthen their relationships and unity for their growth and development.”
With varying drumbeats, and dance steps, the Igbo cultural day was a celebration to reckon with, as Ndigbo from all parts of the State and in the diaspora danced and swayed their waists joyfully to the different rhythms of musics played at the occasion.
The event, was also used to showcase some Igbo beliefs, practices and norms even as it was equally used as a channel to discuss some teething problems believed to be bedevilling today’s Nigeria and her economic growth.
