Gbenga Akinyombo and Corporal Adetunji Alaba have won this year’s men and women categories of the Airtel-Indian Golf Cup concluded at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 at the weekend.
In a strong field that paraded the likes of Uwem Udoh, Andrew Oddiri, Jerome Marinho, Gbenga Akinyombo scored 71 net to top the chart and cart home the coveted prize.
He was closely followed by Andrew Oddiri who scored 72 net c/b while Uwem Udoh also with a net score of 72 c/b placed third.
In the Ladies competition decided earlier in the week, Corporal Adetunji Alaba of the Nigerian Police Club, Ikeja won the Guest category. Folashade Oni of Miccom Club placed second while.
Oluremi Olukoya was the gross winner with a score of 80 while Chinyere Ekeocha and Tom Ayonmike placed second and third respectively.
Awofala of the Ewekoro Golf club won the guest category.
The Indian Cup, sponsored by telecommunication giants, Airtel Nigeria, is aimed at promoting the game of golf in the country, while rewarding the players. An official of the company said, “ it is another move by Airtel Nigeria to highlight its leading role in sports development in Nigeria.”
This year’s edition of the Indian Cup will attracted both expatriate and indigenous professional golfers and caddies from across the nation.
