Former Nigeria international, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka has congratulated the Super Eagles after yesterday’s victory over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire but cautioned against being carried away by the feat.
In a text message to Sports Vanguard last night, the former dashing winger wrote, “Congrats to Nigeria! But,we have not ‘arrived’ yet.
“Part of our challenges in this country is that when we play reasonably well in one match,we conclude prematurely that we’ve won the championship.
Cote d’Ivoire had a similar mentality and were just not in this match. Apparently, they were carried away by their ‘No.1’ ranking in Africa. And they lost.
There are still issues with organisation in our defence. In a set-piece situation, you don’t leave an opponent unmarked in your penalty box.
“We did that and conceded a goal. We should correct that and note too that we do better when we are in ‘ATTACK’ mode as in this match. And we will do best when we spread defences thin by using entire width of the pitch.
Furthermore, kudos to the local league player for our second goal. But that doesn’t mean our league is still not very sick.”
