ABUJA—MEMBERS of the House of Representatives, yesterday, mandated security agencies to quickly initiate action towards identifying corpses found floating in Ezu River in Anambra State and unravel those who dumped the 40 bodies in the river.
The House also directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, immediately provide alternate water source to the affected communities.
This was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House by Chukwuemeke Nwogbo, APGA, Anambra State.
Nwogbo had told his colleagues that “the Amansea and Ebenebe Communities of Awka North woke up to a pungent and obnoxious smell.
“On further investigation, they discovered about 40 corpses of various stages of decomposition floating in River Ezu.”
He said the river was the only source of domestic water for Amansea, Ebenebe and other neighboring communities in the state.
