Asaba— Persons arrested in connection with the kidnap of the mother of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Professor Kamene Okonjo, currently being interrogated at the state police headquarters, Asaba, will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations were concluded, state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Famous Ijieh has said.
Meantime, the Apostle General of Cherubim and Seraphim in Delta State has been kidnapped from residence on Kwale/Ashaka Road, Delta State.
William Omenma, one of the suspects and first to be arrested for his alleged involvement in the kidnap of Prof. Kamene Okonjo, was, weekend, arraigned before a Chief Magistrate court, Asaba, on a four-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnap.
Omenma, who was remanded at Ogwashi- Uku prison, is also facing another two-count charge of alleged kidnapping one Mr. Mazwell Dim, male, the owner of Obi-Link filling station, Asaba, along with other accomplices still at large, on October 6, 2010 as well as the alleged kidnapping of one Osadebe between November 2011 and February 2012 with the collaboration of others still at large.
Vanguard gathered that the abductors of the Apostle General of Cherubim and Seraphim, numbering six, stormed his residence on Friday night and forcefully took the 76-year-old religious leader to an unknown destination. Ijieh confirmed the kidnap yesterday, saying, “we have spread our dragnet for the abductors.”
