Asaba—DELTA State Police Command, yesterday, said it had re-arrested some of the prisoners who escaped from Federal Prison, Ogwashi-Uku, while search had also been intensified for others.
Although the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Famous Ijieh, declined to give the number of those re-arrested, it was gathered that more than three persons were declared wanted by the police.
It was further gathered that the prisoners cleverly drilled a hole with an object which eased their escape, as investigation was on to determine whether it was an inside job or the escape was aided by outsiders.
Ijieh, in a statement in Asaba, said the escaped suspects “were trial inmates of the prison remanded in connection with offences ranging from conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.”
