NFF assures players of entitlements ahead of AFCON
Lagos – Sanusi Mohammed, Director of Competitions of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Friday assured Super Eagles players of their entitlements, ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The nations cup is scheduled to hold from Jan. 19 to Feb. 10 in South Africa. Mohammed said on telephone that the welfare and match bonuses of players were crucial to their performance, stressing that the players’ welfare would not be compromised.
“The players are already in camp and we are doing all our best to ensure that they are well taken care of in order to ensure a good outing.
”The players are aware of their entitlements and all their match bonus and allowances would be settled whether they win or lose,” Mohammed stated.
He said that part of the NFF’s responsibilities was to ensure that warm up matches were played, saying the federation was already acting in that capacity with the friendly against Catalonia.
He said the Eagles were billed to play another friendly with nations cup debutants Cape Verde on Jan. 9, before heading for South Africa. “Part of the federation’s responsibility is ensuring that we have a good number of warm up matches for the team and they played one against Catalonia on Wednesday.
“The team is also scheduled to play another match with Cape Verde before they go to the tournament in South Africa,” he said. Mohammed noted that although the supporters club was an independent body, the federation was working closely with the club to ensure massive support for the team.
Nigeria are in Group `C’ of the AFCON alongside defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. The Eagles would play its opening group match on Jan. 21, against Burkina Faso in Nelspruit, while its second game is against Zambia on Jan. 25, also in Nelspruit. The last group game is against Ethiopia on the Jan. 29, in Rustenburg. (NAN)
