ADO EKITI — The last week endorsement of the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi by some leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state to run for the second term in 2015, has met a stiff opposition, as one of the prominent members of the party in the state, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele has kicked against the whole arrangement, saying it was a mere expression of opinion.
Opeyemi who is currently a member of the House of Representatives representing Ado Ekiti and Irepodun -Ifelodun Federal Constituency, said the endorsement of a sitting governor was normal in politics.
According to him, the adoption of Fayemi by a section of the party does not foreclose other party members against challenging him.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Mr. Ahmed Salami and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the federal lawmaker pointed out that endorsement of a sitting governor is normal in politics, but noted that such cannot rob other party members of the rights to aspire for the same seat at the primary.
Bamidele who is believed to be interested in the plum job of the state’s chief executive, said the adoption does not have any legal effect since the national leaders of the party are yet to ratify Fayemi as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
