Afcon: Super Eagles will bounce back – Olowude
Executive Vice Chairman, Industrial And General Insurance Plc (IGI), Mr. Remi Olowude, hasurged Nigerians not to write off the Super Eagles on account of their opening match on Monday against the Stallions of Burkina Faso which they drew 1-1.
Olowude, in a statement in Lagos, stressed that IGI’s support for the national team remained unswerving, despite what he described as the “temporary setback” suffered on Monday. Urging Nigerians to keep their faith alive and never lose hope in the Super Eagles.
He said IGI, as the official insurer of all national teams, was prepared to review upward the $1,000 per goal offer which it already made to the team.
“What happened on Monday was a temporary setback which shouldn’t be used as a yardstick to judge the outcome of the tournament. Our fighting spirit as Nigerians is legendary. The boys will certainly bounce back to reckoning,” he said.
He enjoined the players to put the past behind them and focus on how to win their next match and qualify for the next stage.
“We have to make sure that we beat Zambia to return to the competition. The memory of the eleventh hour equalizer is still painful to many football loving Nigerians. We can cure that pain only by defeating Chipolopolo of Zambia on Friday.”
Olowude encouraged the players to step up their game and be cautious of committing last-minute mistakes. “IGI believes in you and trusts that you will bring smiles to the faces of your fans again,” he added.
