Afcon: No excuses, we will clip Eagles wings – Mulenga

Chipolopolo forward, Jacob Mulenga has promised Zambian fans that they were going to make amends for their 1-1 against Ethiopia with a convincing victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who they confront Friday at the Mhombela Stadium in Nelspuit.

Zambia surprised the world last year when they defeated Ivory Coast in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

A year on from that historic feat, they are the team that others ant to beat, a point which the Utretch of Holland striker, said was what motivated the Ethiopians in the first match on Monday.

Mulenga said credit has to be given to Ethiopia for playing well and that a draw is not a bad result.

“A draw in the first game is a sign of nothing. This is a tournament and you have seen what is happening. A draw in the first game is a good result. It is just all about working hard.

“Last time in Gabon, everyone was expecting all the other teams to win but we won it That is football. As long as you make it to the Africa Cup, you have a good chance of winning it.”

Mulenga said the focus now is to win all up-coming matches, beginning with today’s encounter against Nigeria. .

“ We are going to play to win, no excuses. It does not matter who we are playing. We just have to focus on our team and everyone else, that is their business,” he said.

Also speaking, midfield ace, Rainford Kalaba , said that e was expecting a tough tie from the Eagles but noted that they were prepared for the occasion.

“There is nothing much to worry about. We are going back to prepare ourselves because it won’t be an easy game for us. Every game has different tactics,” he said.
