Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara lost 215 in auto crashes in 11 months – FRSC

Sokoto—Federal Roads Safety Commission, FRSC, has said that between January and November this year, 215 persons lost their lives in road traffic crashes in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

The Corps’ Head of Department, Vehicles Administration, Alhaji Danjuma Aliyu, disclosed this, yesterday, in Sokoto, during a press conference to mark the commencement of a special end-of-year campaign, tagged, “Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes.”

He said: “In all, 82 fatal crashes were recorded in the zone during the period under review, 77 of which were critical.”

Aliyu said that the operation was aimed at ensuring that motorists observe traffic rules and regulations.

“Nigerians must take safety as personal and collective responsibilities. It is only the living that celebrate and they are those who are careful. Accidents do not respect class or social status.

“We, however, need the usual support and cooperation of all stakeholders in the country in making our roads more safer.

“Nigerians must be disciplined drivers and commuters and respect the rights of others while on the wheels.”

While assuring that regular and special marshals across the nation were committed to ensuring safety on Nigerian roads, he added that the cooperation of all stakeholders was required.

He also stressed the need for the provision of additional patrol vehicles.
