BENIN— Erstwhile Senate Chief Whip, Senator Roland Owie, has described the late National Secretary of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN, Senator Uba Ahmed, as a fearless politician who put principle and courage above material wealth.
Senator Owie, who served in the second republic House of Representatives when Senator Ahmed was in the senate, also described the deceased as a bridge builder who despite sharing opposite political platform, espoused unity in his actions.
Senator Ahmed, who also served as the country’s Minister of Labour and Productivity, was one of the most influential politicians of the second republic.
He said: “The late Senator Uba Ahmed was a bridge builder in the politics of Nigeria and very intelligent and religion was no barrier in his relationship with people.
“I was a UPN member of the House of Representatives between 1979 and 1983 when Senator Uba Ahmed was in the Senate as an NPN Senator. He related with members of the opposition parties cordially.”
