AKURE—BANKS in Akure, the Ondo State capital hurriedly shut their doors against their customers yesterday following an alleged invasion of the state by armed robbers.
As early as noon the banks received signals that hoodlums were within the metropolis and not wanting to take chances they literally drove their customers out of their banking hall and shut their gates.
Customers that were lucky were allowed to hurriedly complete their transactions before they were asked to leave the banking halls.
Vanguard’s visit to some bank premises showed that the even the bank workers fled their duty posts leaving only security guards at the entrances.
Immediately information of the robbery scare spread, both the customers inside the banking hall and the bank workers took to their heels.
The Police image maker Adeniran Aremu when contacted described the scare as misplaced.
Aremu told Vanguard that Policemen are “fully” on ground in every nook and cranny patrolling the state.
Meantime, police in Ondo State have arrested three hoodlums said to be specialists in blocking highways with logs of wood to rob motorists on the Akure-Ilesha highway.
