Former Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Alex Nwokedi has blamed Nigerians over the poor performances of political office holders since the return of democratic governance about 12 years ago, saying that the electorate deliberately elect incompetent leaders and expect them to perform miracles.

Igwe Nwokedi said that there had been no semblance of governance over the years, except for the media which had been trying to keep the flag flying.

He spoke in an interview with Saturday Vanguard inLagosThursday. He particularly lamented the incessant bomb attacks among other security breaches in the country, lamenting that the military church at Armed Forces andCommandCollege, Jaji was penetrated and bombed.

’’Is it not a disgrace that Jaji was bombed? Jaji! a major stronghold of Nigerian Armed Forces where our very highly intelligent officers are trained!  And look, we are old people, you know?  We wake and pick up paper everyday and read that our children are slaughtered.  Do you think we are happy?

I get very, very sad about it.  And anybody who cannot guarantee security in our country should not rule us.  We stay in our community very far away and read about these things and they make us sad!

This St. Andrew’sMilitaryChurchbombed in Jaji; there would be cadet officers there when it was bombed but we have not been told.  These are our children.  It is the desire of parents that their children should bury them not they to bury their children.”

But that is the case in our hands now in the country and it is very, very sad!  Okay look at what happened in Auchi where armed robbers went on rampage even killing security operatives,’’ he said.

According to him, politicians in theFirstRepublicwere more honest than the current crop of the nations leaders as they made sure that their party manifestos were implemented to the letter, unlike thsese days when party supporters sing praises of incompetent leaders.
