National Gallery holds Art Symposium in Calabar

National Gallery of Art will today at the Margret Ekpo Cultural Centre Complex Calabar, Cross River State flag off its two day flagship programmes; National Symposium on Nigerian Art and its Annual Distinguished  lecture.

The Annual Distinguished Lecture, which is in  its11th edition is a yearly ritual organized by the National Gallery of Art as part of its Statutory mandate to educate stakeholders and the Nigerian public  on the various aspects of Nigerian Visual arts.

The topic for this year’s lecture is Imagination and will be delivered by Professor Dele Jegede of Miami University, Ohio State, United States of America. In the same vein, the National Symposium on art, another of NGA annual forum which brings together studio artists, art historians, art curators, art critics, and lovers of art under one roof to brainstorm on the way forward for the arts and artists will start on 7th December.

The symposium  working under the theme,Rebranding Nigeria through Art’ will examine and evaluate how visual art can serve as a veritable means of re-branding Nigeria’s economy.
