Harvest of awards for Rita Dominic, Monalisa Chinda
While some movie stars are already getting their Christmas gifts wrapped underneath Christmas trees, some are still getting theirs on stage. For Rita Dominic and Monalisa Chinda, this is a season of awards.
Barely a week after Rita Dominic was named most stylish actress at the FAB awards in Lagos, she was yet again announced a big winner at the fourth edition of the KALASHA film and Television awards penultimate Saturday in Kenya
The University of Port Harcourt graduate of Theatre Arts emerged Best Actress for her performance in the Kenyan film, “Shattered”.
Meanwhile, in far away Germany, Monalisa Chinda was also nnounced winner of the Adler awards and NEGA (Nollywood E-Golden) awards, respectively.
Presented to carefully selected Africans who have shown the greatest promise of contribution to human well-being, through the application of their intellect and knowledge towards the development of their communities, the prestigious Adler Awards was held in Bonn, Germany on December 1st, while the NEGA Awards which celebrates creative talents took place a week after.
The multi-talented actress has also been busy putting together an eccentric Christmas Dance Production to be unveiled soon.
Rita Dominic dedicated her awards to God Almighty. She said , “I dedicate this award to God for his mercies, the media for their immense support, my team for their continuous sustenance, and making me believe that the sky is just a starting point. A special thanks to my Kenyan friends for voting for me and to the Kenyan Film Commission for this award .”
After a brief hiatus from the film industry, Dominic returned to the silver screen this year, and has clearly had a good year. In April, she went home with an AMAA for Best Actress in a leading role for “Shattered”. In October, she premiered The Meeting, her first outing as co-producer. Since hitting cinemas late November, the film has been described as “one of the best movies of 2012 by critics and pundits.”
However, Rita Dominic headlines “Streets of Calabar”, another big budget film slated to premiere in Nigeria on December 21, 2012.
