Kano govt to construct N2.7b sports complex

The Kano State Government announced on Thursday that it would construct a N2.7 billion sports complex in the state capital.

This followed the approval of the proposed project by the State Executive Council, which said the complex should be cited at the former Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) location at Kofar Na’isa, in the Kano metropolis.

A statement by the Director of Press, Malam Halilu Dantiye, said the approval was given during the weekly state executive council meeting held at the Government House on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the complex, which would be the first of its kind in the Northern part of the country, would provide youths the opportunity to engage in various sporting activities.

The statement said the council had also approved the release of N1.9 billion for the reconstruction of the Guda Abdullahi and Justice Dahiru Musdapher roads in the Kano city centre.

“The council has also given the go ahead for the implementation of the 10th batch of the Kwankwaso Women Empowerment scheme, which is expected to consume N484 million,’’ the statement added.

Other approvals granted by the council included the N153.4 million for a memorandum on a bilateral agreement on education between the state and Niger Republic.

Besides, the statement said the council also approved the renovation of the Optamology Department at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, at a cost of N21.9 million. (NAN)
