Husband begs court to dissolve 28 years marriage over wife’s disrepect
A man, Akibu Ibitoye, of Olulande Area, Ilorin, on Monday approached an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve his 28 years-old marriage, alleging wife’s non-submissive and domineering attitude in the home.
Ibitoye, 68, told the court that his wife, Mariam Arinola, had not been submissive and had a domineering attitude in the home.
He told the court that the wife threatened to harm him and his new wife if her authority was violated.
“I have lost my authority as the head of the house because my wife always takes laws into her hand,” he said.
He said that the marriage was contracted in 1984 and blessed with three children, Munirat, 26, Suleiman, 23, and Mutiyat, 19.
“Her rude behaviour forced me into marrying a second woman in 2010 since I have lost control of my house to her. l have no say as the head.”
He prayed the court to dissolve the marriage, adding that he had nothing to do with her anymore.
Mariam denied the allegation against her, saying: “since my husband married another woman, his attitude toward me changed.
“That was why I refused to take orders from him anymore,’’ she said, and pleaded with the court to give her time to make a reconciliatory move.
The Judge, Mr Ibrahim Abdulquadri, adjourned the case to Dec. 20, for report of settlement and continuation of hearing. (NAN)
