GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, yesterday, said that the late Chief Hope Harriman was a great asset to the Itsekiri nation as he was always present in all elders’ associations in the country, particularly in the South-South region, to protect their interest.
Speaking at the service of songs held at Harriman’s residence in GRA, Warri, Governor Uduaghan, said Harriman was a great Nigerian, who achieved a lot in his life time.
He appealed to the Itsekiri people to ensure that they were always represented anywhere decisions concerning the South–South region are to be taken.
The service of song had in attendance eminent Nigerians and foreigners, including the Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka, first class chiefs, businessmen and other top government functionaries.
Chief Isaac Jimide, of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILOT, at the event, hailed the achievements of the late marine merchant, noting that at every level, Harriman would do anything to serve the Itsekiri cause, adding that he was immensely wealthy and thoroughly enjoyed his wealth.
Former governor of Western State, Brigadier Esijolomi Tuoyo, (rtd), said Harriman was a consummate humorist, who loved the native Itsekiri pepper-soup (Igbagba), that was always ready for him any time he got home. (See photo album on Page 13).
